Agriculture in the Philippines
- Agriculture is a significant branch of the Philippine economy. One in three people in the Philippines works in the sector. Agriculture accounts for 1/7th of the gross domestic product (GDP).
- The country abounds in fertile soils and, by the way, crop cultivation is possible basically all year round. The most important agricultural products are sugar cane, rice, coconuts, bananas, maize and pineapples. Rice is grown in central and north-central Luzon (the largest island of Phillip in the north) south-central Mindanao (the largest island in the south), western Negros and eastern and central Panay. Rice crops occupy 1/4 of the cultivated land.
