  • Natural resources: Arable land, forests, mineral wealth. Arable land accounts for more than 30% of the total area (i.e. 92,000 km2), forests for about 25% (i.e. 72,000 km2). Thermal springs and mountain rivers are important and potential sources of energy. Mineral resources include: copper, cobalt, nickel, gold, silver, chromite, gypsum, natural gas, oil, salt, sulphur. Also in smaller quantities: lead, mercury, molybdenum, zinc, bauxite.
  • State religion: Catholicism – 81.4%, Protestantism – 10.8%, Islam – 5.5%, traditional tribal religions – 1.5%, no religion – 0.1%, Buddhism – 0.09%.
